Connie Kamm and Rigorous Curriculum Design

We were fortunate to have Connie Kamm come work with our teacher leaders at Dublin Unified Thursday and Friday of last week.

Our teachers are working hard developing curriculum that is Common Core aligned and is engaging, purposeful and meaningful for our students.  Connie discussed with us the purpose of revisiting our work - we are given an amazing opportunity to design the learning for our students’ needs.  We thankfully are not being given a curriculum that is a One Size Fits All - but rather, we are able to work collaboratively with one another to create the curriculum we have decided is best for our students and is aligned to the Common Core Standards.

Connie Kamm will be coming back to work with our teachers for three days in the summer to allow us to take the best of what we have been doing with our students and refine it to make it even more meaningful for our students and rigorous so that our students will be college and career ready. What an exciting opportunity!

I enjoyed learning about Rigorous Curriculum Design and Connie Kamm’s approach to learning.  She discussed with us the importance of Growth Mindset (check out my other blog Fostering Life Long Learners - March 27, 2015 to learn more) and Grit.  We ask our students to revise, edit, and evaluate their work on a daily basis and we are being given an opportunity to do that as well with the learning that we provide our students.  What a wonderful experience.  It allows us to continue our growth as learners, teachers, and leaders.
